WA are 5-156 at stumps with Marsh (69no) and Whiteman (36no) steadying the ship after the Warriors were reduced to 5-47.

The entire first session was lost due to rain, after WA skipper Adam Voges had won the toss and elected to bat 45 minutes prior to the expected start of play when the sun was shining. Play eventually commenced at 2pm, but Queensland’s attack enjoyed the conditions after the deluge of rain, dismissing the in-form Marcus North for 4 before another brief delay.

WA lost more wickets after the resumption, slipping to 5-47 before Marsh and Whiteman rallied with an excellent 109-run partnership. Marsh hit 12 fours and one six on his way to the unbeaten 69, while Whiteman played a steadying role with his 36 coming from 86 deliveries.

Ben Cutting was Queensland’s best with the ball, ending the day with 2-26, claiming Cameron Bancroft and Voges’ wickets, although the latter’s dismissal was a curious moment before tea where the Bulls appealed for both lbw and caught with the umpires consulting before giving the WA skipper out.

James Hopes (1-28), Michael Neser (1-34) and Luke Feldman (1-38) all finished the day with one wicket each, with Shaun Marsh the last man out shortly after tea caught at first slip for 6.
