England batsman James Taylor has been appointed as Nottinghamshire’s new limited overs captain ahead of the 2014 county season.
Wicketkeeper Chris Read will retain the captaincy reins for the Trent Bridge side’s County Championship campaign, although he has not been captaining the sides in 40-over and Twenty20 cricket recently.
Those jobs have been left to overseas stars David Hussey and Adam Voges in the last few seasons.
Taylor, 23-years-old and born in Nottinghamshire, made his name with local rivals Leicestershire before moving counties ahead of 2012. He has played two Tests and two one-day internationals for his country.
He told the Notts’ website: “I’m looking forward to captaining Notts Outlaws because I’ve had positive experiences leading the (England) Lions against good opposition on tough tours.
“There are challenges that come with it, but I’ll enjoy the extra responsibility. I’m going to relish every minute of it, but most importantly I need to lead from the front with the bat.
“I’m a relatively young and inexperienced captain, so I haven’t defined my style yet. I’ll definitely be trying to get the best out of everyone in any way that I can by giving them confidence to play.”
Taylor has also signed a new two-year contract, which ties him to the county until the end of 2016. Read, 35, has also penned a new two-year deal.
Nottinghamshire are the reigning Yorkshire Bank 40 champions having beaten Glamorgan at Lord’s in September.
