The Cape Cobras required just one session to wrap up an innings victory over the Dolphins on day three of their Sunfoil Series match at the Maritzburg Oval on Saturday as Beuran Hendricks swept through the Dolphins batting line-up.
Hendricks struck twice in the second over of the day and also claimed the last two wickets on his way to figures of 6 for 54, as the Dolphins fell from their overnight total of 125 for one to 212 all out in the space of 28 overs.
That gave the Cobras an innings and 98-run victory and 19.1 points from their first fixture of the competition, while the Dolphins claimed just three bowling points.
In truth there was no way back for the home side after they were bowled out for just 88 on the opening day, even if they made a much sturdier start to their second innings.
Divan van Wyk had gone to stumps on day two unbeaten on 52, but Hendricks trapped him lbw with his first ball of the day and then dismissed Vaughn van Jaarsveld for nought in the same over.
Morne van Wyk also went for a duck when he was bowled by Rory Kleinveldt, before Hendricks had Cody Chetty caught for seven.
Keshav Maharaj fought hard for his 37 not out, but the wickets continued to tumble at the other end as the Cobras steamrolled their way to a formidable victory, with Hendricks recording match figures of 9 for 75.
