Moeen Ali was named the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) Player of the Year for 2013 last night. The Worcestershire all-rounder was the leading scorer in the LV County Championship and has been selected on England’s Performance Programme squad to tour Australia this winter.
Moeen succeeds last year’s recipient Nick Compton and beat other nominees Michael Hogan, Samit Patel and Graham Onions.
Ben Stokes was the PCA Young Player of the Year which now sits on his mantelpiece alongside the Cricket Writers’ Club award he picked up earlier in the week. The Durham all-rounder was key to his side’s winning Championship campaign making 615 runs and adding 42 wickets. He has made the full England tour this Ashes winter. The other nominees in this category were Joe Root, Reece Topley and James Vince.
Onions was named Championship Player of the Year while David Willey picked up the Friends Life t20 award and Peter Trego won the Yorkshire Bank 40 gong.
