“Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday is celebrated every year on 2 October and so will Tendulkar’s”, he continued. “Sachin is a national hero and his birthday should be declared as a sports day in the country as he is a role model for the nation”.

Recalling his playing days with Tendulkar, Prasad added, “He looked like a 16-year-old guy in earlier days and to me he is still young. His sincerity and modesty are not changed at all.

“After retiring from the game Sachin should adopt other games and try to develop them in the country” he suggested. “Hockey is our national game but our people are cricket-crazy.

“If Tendulkar involves himself in other sports, I am sure the people would start taking interest in other games and there will be no lack of sponsors.

“Sachin should take interest in administration of other games”, he continued. “I will not be surprised if he becomes sports minister of the nation one day”.

MSK Prasad will be attending the Master-blaster’s farewell Test in Mumbai.
