World’s legendary cricketers unite in London to help disabled children

A who’s who list of 21 legendary Test cricket captains from all corners of the globe gathered in London earlier this week in support of The Lord’s Taverners, the UK’s leading youth cricket and disability sports charity.

Among those attending a Gala Dinner which raised over £140,000 to assist disabled children were two former Indian skippers, Sunil Gavaskar and Saurav Ganguly, with their respective wives, Marshneil (Pummy) and Dona.

“It has been a fun for world’s legendary players gathered here,” said Tim Berg, the financial director of the club.”They interacted with each other and remembered the old days. They exchanged words and narrated their experience with the young people.”

Sir Garfield Sobers, Sir Viv Richards, Richie Benaud, Clive Lloyd, Shaun Pollock, Ian Chappell, Sourav Ganguly, Andy Flower,Jeremy Coney, Mushtaq Mohammad, Kumar Sangakkaraand and David Gower were also in attendance. .

“We did not invite any Bangladeshi captains as we felt that they had not yet achieved legendary test captain status. We did invite, and he came, Andy Flowers who was Zimbabwe captain for some years”, Berg added.
