Pat Cummins flies home from A tour with new injury scare

20-year-old Australian pace man Pat Cummins has been forced to quit the Australia A tour of South Africa with a back injury. He has returned home to have the problem assessed.

Plagued by injury in his embryonic career, Cummins has missed the last two domestic seasons in Australia with back and foot issues, playing just six first-class matches in three years.

The New South Wales youngster alerted the team’s physiotherapist, Kevin Sims, of pain in his ribs and back during the Tri-Series game against India A.

He was Man of the Match on debut in Johannesburg in November 2011 when he claimed 6-79 against South Africa and hit the winning runs.

To date that is his only Test appearance.
