Those guys, who had recommended and selected Woodhill as batting coach should be taken to task, Mudassar Nazar, one of the several critics, was quoted saying recently.

Speaking exclusively from Australia, Trent Woodhil said, “I felt I made a significant contribution regardless of the criticism from former players. The guys in the squad were extremely receptive and I enjoyed their company.”

“Intikhab Alam made my appointment on the recommendation of Mushtaq Ahmed,” he continued. “Dav Whatmore didn’t have a say but I did well with him. He is a good coach and I hope to work with him again very soon”.

“Foreign coaches are good for offering a different perspective on preparation. They come without emotional attachment so are able to offer an unbiased assessment, but we must have a track record of success”, he added.

“It is a possibility of my joining with the Pakistan squad again. They are touring Australia next summer and the World Cup follows”.

Woodhill has no difficulties in understanding the culture of the Asian countries.

“I have coached in India (Delhi Daredevils team in IPL). I feel I understand the culture. I am patient and my personality and coaching style suits sub continent cricket,” he said.

Woodhill still wants to be associated with the Pakistan.squad despite uncertainty in the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and its unprofessionalism approach.

“Cricket administrators the world over make you question, but the bottom line is that as a coach your sole responsibility is developing and improving the players’ game, regardless of the madness around”.

“I am impressed with the players and coaches. Mohammad Akram is an absolute legend and given time will turn the Pakistan fast bowlers into the best in the world. Whatmore is so passionate and is about making the players strive for excellence.”

“I have been following the Pakistan team’s progress and was happy with their victories in West Indies.

“I can help a player like Hafeez go to another level. The young players like Umer Amin and Junaid Khan are super talented.

“I am happy for Dav and Misbah. They are a great bunch of lads who are paying for the sins of the past.

“I would love to be with them at the next Twenty20 World Cup in March”, he concluded.

Woodhill will become a father of his first child on Tuesday.

“My first child is being born on Tuesday morning and I will be taking time off to enjoy that experience. This baby has been 7 years in the making, we have been having IVF for that long, so its extra special.”
